2020: Book Rewind

I started this vlog earlier this year to read more and help improve my diction. I've been letting my mind rot for a while and decided to start working my brain out more. Unfortunately, I took a long break between my first two posts and now, but I'm not backing down next year! Linking with Goodreads has helped push me to keep reading while crossing off some books I've always wanted to read. I also decided to take Goodreads' 2020 reading challenge, but I think everyone knows how that turned out.

This year so far, I have read a total of eight books. I have a review for seven of those books and one book without a review, nor will it be getting one (sorry!). You can see my Goodreads 2020 reading challenge here.

Now, I understand I lack in variety with my choice of books. So far, I only have classics and one true crime, but I am looking to change it up for next year, a lot. Saying this, I feel as if I'm stuck in my 'young adult book' phase, so expect my picks to go far apart on either side from classics to Harry Potter-esque. My least favorite genre is romance, so don't expect much if anything from there. It has to be either fantasy or mystery/thriller for my favorite genre, so those will most likely dominate my reviews. Either way, my goal is to add variety from old to new, short stories to novels, etc.


My top three favorite books in 2020:


There weren't many books to choose from, so the choices were pretty straightforward. I made sure only to include books that I have a review up for, though, so you can check to see what my thoughts were on the books that lead to my decision. I had plenty of time to accomplish my goal this year, but I decided to enjoy my books rather than speedread short ones just for the sake of finishing. Well, here's to another year of reading! May 2021 be better than the last, and may I complete my challenge!

Being the second installment of the  Wounds in the Sky  series by  V. R. Cardoso , I was excited to see how the story continued from where it left off. This book does an excellent job picking up where the last one left off and seems to build up to its own plot nicely while expanding its universe as well. While the first book had its own share of deaths and high-risk situations, this book seems to take everything to the next level. Unfortunately, it appears that it'll be some time before we get to read the third book, so, for now, I'll have to make do with these two!

Ember's End by S.D Smith

Looking through my ebook library, I saw one series that I had started but have yet to finish. When I first got my Fire Tablet, I looked through the free-to-read books, and this series caught my eye. Although a children's series, it provided me with adequate stimulation before heading to bed. I'm not a fan of rabbits. I prefer their predators, birds (which are the villains in this story), but the protagonist won me over, and so did the plot. Mainly, the idea of rabbits with swords was entertaining enough.

This is just the beginning!

So to mark my FIRST post on this lovely new blog of mine, Lucy's Pick , I'll just talk a bit of what you can expect here. This is by no means my first blog. I have another one, Dragonas Talk , over on Wordpress and was a bit active on there before I stopped. I wouldn't say that I QUIT that blog, I'm just finding it very difficult to continue. I got a bit bored of what I was doing and then that HORRIBLE new post editor came out and I just don't want to deal with any of that for now. Which is why I'm now here! I'm not changing that blog to here though. At Dragonas Talk I reviewed anime and talked about other anime/Japanese things in general which is not going to be the case here at Lucy's Pick ! Here at Lucy's Pick you can expect reviews, yes, BUT not of anime or anime culture! Instead you can get my reviews on books and other kinds of literature, at least for now.
